Hansen’s next crusade

Climate scientist Jimbo Hansen at NASA has just drafted a fresh paper urging us to return the CO2-levels back to those of 1988 (350ppm).

Humanity today, collectively, must face the uncomfortable fact that industrial civilization itself has become the principal driver of global climate. If we stay our present course, using fossil fuels to feed a growing appetite for energy-intensive life styles, we will soon leave the climate of the Holocene, the world of human history. The eventual response to doubling pre-industrial atmospheric CO2 likely would be a nearly ice-free planet.

The stakes, for all life on the planet, surpass those of any previous crisis. The greatest danger is continued ignorance and denial, which could make tragic consequences unavoidable.

Sounds to me more like sermon than science. I wonder if Hansen at all believes returning to 1988-levels of CO2 is possible with emissions pouring out of China and India. Someone should tell the guy to get a grip.

“Emphasis on extreme scenarios may have been appropriate at one time, when the public and decision-makers were relatively unaware of the global warming issue, and energy sources such as “synfuels,” shale oil and tar sands were receiving strong consideration.

Now, however, the need is for demonstrably objective climate forcing scenarios consistent with what is realistic under current conditions. Scenarios that accurately fit recent and near-future observations have the best chance of bringing all of the important players into the discussion, and they also are what is needed for the purpose of providing policy-makers the most effective and efficient options to stop global warming. ”

I wonder if James knows of an ice age that occurred while the CO2 levels was above 3000 ppm?

“The eventual response to doubling pre-industrial atmospheric CO2 likely would be a nearly ice-free planet.”

Based on what?

Another unverified model?

Hansen is using his same old trick of using scare tactics - to hysterical proportions - to influence politicians and other lay people into making political decisions that fit his (and the UN’s) socialist ideology.
If our politicians and the UN were not so corrupt, this man would be on trial for fraud (along with Al Gore). Check ClimateAudit.Org - even if you do not understand it all, it reveals how useless climate ‘models’ are. They are nothing more than a tool to give apparant credibility to their unscientific statements, but mean nothing, deeply flawed as they are.
People need to realise that the future danger lies with our corrupt leaders and policy makers, not the climate, which has shown no warming for over 10 years, despite CO2 levels rising.
Oh yes - check this - the whole ‘Greenhouse Gas’ theory is just that - a theory! It has never actually been observed in laboratory conditions - possibly because the laws of physics would not allow it. It’s fascinating, do some googling on it!

Hansen is ill.

He has Global Warming Derangement Syndrome
