Utter stupidity

I thought I had heard a lot. But the latest news from the UN is just too much. Apparently, the UN Human Rights Council has made climate change a human right issue. At the same time the council also gave the green light for a study into the impact of climate change on human rights.

So what does that mean? Are we adding a new article to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?

Article 3a.

Everyone has the right to a stable and unchanging climate.

The new resolution was initiated by the Maldives. The country’s Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid says that climate change “violates all human rights” - from the basic to the fundamental. “In the case of Maldives, the right to life itself”, he adds.

It’s too bad stupidity isn’t painful.

The Maldivans wrote up this cute resolution.

“Everyone has the right to a stable and unchanging climate.”

The solution is already available.

Move to Antarctica.

Maggie, this is of course nothing but stupidity - but behind this stupidity there can be rational self interest explained by public choice theory. The Maldivians - at least the politicians - see gains in riding the wave of climate alarmism. That way the may gain access to money to save them [from their totally imagined, but in the eyes of the world credible] dire situation. They will have us believe that their nation soon will be engulfed by rising sea levels. Contradictory to what everyone believes there is no alarming trend in rising sea levels. The sea level in the Maldives has actualla been pretty much constant for generations. Since there is no money for the Maldives in this truth becoming known they will sell the present “snake oil” of global warming catastrophy. Arguing for making “a stable and unchanging climate” a new human right certainly seem crazy to us, but to them it is part of their package making money on our ungrounded fear.

Peter has got it 100% right. Follow the money (as with Gore).
