Global warming offset by natural climate variations
UK Telegraph reports: “Global warming will stop until at least 2015 because of natural variations in the climate, scientists have said. Researchers studying long-term changes in sea temperatures said they now expect a “lull” for up to a decade while natural variations in climate cancel out the increases caused by man-made greenhouse gas emissions. The average temperature of the sea around Europe and North America is expected to cool slightly over the decade while the tropical Pacific remains unchanged. This would mean that the 0.3°C global average temperature rise which has been predicted for the next decade by the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change may not happen, according to the paper published in the scientific journal Nature.”
The UK Telegraph article by reporter Charles Clover noted the significant deficiencies in UN climate models: “The IPCC currently does not include in its models actual records of such events as the strength of the Gulf Stream and the El Nino cyclical warming event in the Pacific, which are known to have been behind the warmest year ever recorded in 1998.”
However, the effect of rising fossil fuel emissions will mean that warming will accelerate again after 2015 when natural trends in the oceans veer back towards warming, according to the computer model.
But if natural variations are able to offset the man-made warming, is then our contribution to climate change significant? Also, if nature now (temporarily) cools the Earth, why shouldn’t the recent warming be natural as well?
I think that Al Gore should plan for an alternative occupation.

Yes, awkward questions indeed for the Y2Kyoto crowd. If nature can repeatedly cause ice ages and then thaw the massive ice sheets to create long periods of warmth , why can’t the modest temperature rise we have seen in recent decades be natural? As always, the challenge for the AGW folks is to show evidence that the temperature rise of the 80’s and 90’s (now seemingly stalled or even reversed — the jury is still out on that) was caused by humans as opposed to nature. Where is the smoking gun that would justify all the nonsense peddled by global warming profiteer , and oh yes Nobel laureate, Al Gore ?
Hello Maggie,
I thought you might find it interesting that the Northern California wine country (IE: Napa & Sonoma Valleys)
has been experiencing the coldest spring in over 30 years.
While a few weeks of cold may not mean the next ice age is coming (is it?..), when it doesn’t warm like the alarmists screamed it would they seem to change the worry from “global warming” to “climate change”.
Of course the earth experiences climate changes, always has - always will.

I find it interesting that however small an increase in temperature, it is further definite proof of ongoing global warming. A whopping decrease in temperature is just a natural abberation that does not indicate anything of any value. Worse, that decrease in temperature may be a further sign of warming.
What’s that old saying about having the cake and eating too?
Now California might be able to get into the ice wine business like we have done in Canada.

How about, “How do you cover up a big lie? With an even bigger lie, of course!” The AGW crowd is just turning up the volume and the shrillness because their hoped for apocalypse is not coming true as scripted.
We just all have to hold on for awhile until the MSM finally starts to get wise to the fact that our globe is cooling. Out west here, not just in California, but right up the Pacific Coast, we have had the coldest spring in 35 years. That is hardly a sign of global ‘warming’. Funny how the AGW crowd shrugs it off as an ‘aberration’
