The Church of Green

It’s been long argued that environmentalism, and especially climate alarmism, is based more on faith that facts. According to the Greens, Man is a destroyer by nature, and his actions should be strictly controlled. It is often said that the Earth would in fact benefit if mankind was eradicated once and for all. On our quest to transform the nature so that it best suits our dirty needs, we pervert and pollute what’s pure and innocent.

Jonah Goldberg has written an interesting article about the difference between environmentalism and conservationism.

At its core, environmentalism is a kind of nature worship. It’s a holistic ideology, shot through with religious sentiment. (…) Environmentalism’s most renewable resources are fear, guilt and moral bullying. Its worldview casts man as a sinful creature who, through the pursuit of forbidden knowledge, abandoned our Edenic past.

All this and now we have Leonardo Di Caprio and his “11th Hour” rant and I wonder, will he get an Oscar and a Nobel Peace Prize? I do hope not.
Check out the trailer - enough garbage spoken on that to “tip” anything!

Well, at least Gore has a college degree. Di Caprio doesn’t even have a high school diploma. Personally, I have a hard-earned PhD in the physical sciences. It’s amazing what people will try to lecture you on “science.”

If this is true then no wonder Al Gore will not debate anything, only spout inaccurate stats to sycophantic Green audiences.

Well, from what I’ve seen and read about this over the years, the academic record of Gore given in the article is largely correct. In Gore’s defense, however, I should point out that I think that Gore attended college before the large-scale grade inflation that has afflicted US colleges (particularly the Ivy League) in recent years became rampant. (It started during the Vietnam War, by sympathetic professors, to keep kids from flunking out of school and being drafted.) So in Gore’s day, a grade of “C” would mean “about average” compared to his peers (who were mostly prep-school-trained kids from privileged families).

In any case, nobody doubts that Gore’s training in science is almost nonexistent, and it is true that he never finished either divinity school or law school. The man is simply not a scholar, by any definition of the word.

As for his run for president, I believe that the popular political analyst Larry Sabato explained it best a year ago. He pointed out that when political figures contemplate a run for the White House, they tend to devote more attention to their physical appearance: they get themselves in shape, they lose weight, they dye their hair to hide the gray, etc.

I leave the consequences of this observation as an exercise for the reader. ;-)
