According to Amato Evan, a researcher with the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies, most of the warming in the Atlantic Ocean is largely due to reductions in airborne dust and volcanic emissions during the past 30 years.

His study results suggest that only about 30 percent of the observed Atlantic temperature increases are due to other factors, such as a warming climate. While not discounting the importance of global warming, Evan says this adjustment brings the estimate of global warming impact on Atlantic more into line with the smaller degree of ocean warming seen elsewhere, such as the Pacific.

The new paper is coauthored by Ralf Bennartz and Daniel Vimont of UW-Madison and Andrew Heidinger and James Kossin of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and UW-Madison, and was published in Science on March 26.

Cato Institute is planning a newspaper ad campaign to counter the proposed restrictions on greenhouse gases. Several hundred of scientists have received an email inivitation to sign this ad and thus fight climate regulation.

Cato’s aim is to show that there are several respected scientists in climatology and related fields who do NOT believe that the facts are clear and that the science concerning global warming is settled. But as I said, Andrew Revkin, reporter at the New York Times, doubts that Cato and Michaels will succeed to find enough scientists to sign the ad.

“[M]y guess is it’d be hard to find more than a handful of scientists working on the intertwined climate and energy challenges who would say that fossil-fueled business as usual is the best approach to getting humanity through its 21st-century growth spurt in great shape”, he writes.

But then again, this wasn’t really the question, was it?

Remember Mr Pachauri? He wanted us to stop eating red meat to save the earth. Meat comes from cows that burp methane. Methane is making the world bake. So meat is bad for the climate.

But now, a study in the Archives of Internal Medicine suggests another solution to the global warming problem. According to the study results, high intakes of red meat may increase the risk of mortality. Thus, red meat can cause early death. And remember, one human less is one human carbon footprint less.

So now, we just need to do some math. What’s better for the planet? To eat methane-burping cows and die prematurely, or to live long enough to make up for all that lost methane by higher CO2-emissions? Any volunteers?

Al Gore’s ambitious propaganda tool - The Climate Project - now presents its youngest US-trained presenter. His name is Alex Loorz and he’s 14, a Freshman at El Camino High School in Ventura, California.

“Feeling the weight of the global situation”, Alex founded  Kids vs Global Warming when he was 12 years old, right after watching “An Inconvenient Truth.” Now he’s been officially trained (read: further indoctrinated) by Al Gore and his Climate Project. He will be continue to travel around and “spread the word” to other school children.

TIME Magazine’s Brian Walsh is searching for the climate’s tipping point, comparing it to a future asteroid impact. Only this time we know that the asteroid will hit, the question is not longer “if”, it is “when”.

The threat is real, the asteroid is out there, forecasting an ELE, writes Brian Walsh. Why on earth then doesn”t the society follow the rules of disaster flicks like Armageddon or Deep Impact? Not only do we not mobilize, as fear over the recession grows, climate change is sliding from our consciousness.

And so the tipping point draws closer. Although nobody seems to know how and when it will materialize. But obviously it’s as certain as death and taxes.

The value of the European Carbon Market is going to drop for the first time this year, said Point Carbon at their emissions trading conference this week.The value of emission permits is sagging. And judging by conference attendance, the number of people interested in trading is shrinking, too. Attendance this year was down about a fifth from recent boom years.

Nevertheless, Point Carbon is hoping for a change. Their survey of market participants shows half of the participants still believe that EUA prices will trade at 35 euros a tonne or higher in 2020 and around 80 percent of the total surveyed think the U.S. will have its own scheme by 2015. We’ll see, shall we?

On March 30-31 there will be another climate conference, this time in Washington, D.C. After this conference, four panels of experts are supposed to release consensus reports in late 2009. Then, the Committee on America’s Climate Choices will issue a final report in 2010 that will integrate the findings and recommendations from the four panel reports.

My question is: how much money is put into these conferences, congresses, summits, meetings and seminars? Kyoto, Bali, Washington, Copenhagen? And what is the result? Evidently, millions of dollars are spent on conference facilities, speakers’ fees, travel etc etc. For what good? What have we accomplished so far? And what do we hope to accomplish in the future?

European cap-and-trade is a miserable example of how climate politics don’t work. Now, it may be time for the US to discover the beauties of carbon trading.

I am surprised that, while climate alarmists always call for the precautionary principle when speaking of the dire consequences of CO2-emissions, no one even mentions it when talking about climate politics.
