Here’s Cato Institute’s climate ad signed by 100 scientists who claim that climate change has been grossly overstated. Of course, the AGW side has already dismissed this action. Same old, same old, they say. No new names on the list. Just the usual suspects, getting more and more desperate.

According to Amato Evan, a researcher with the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies, most of the warming in the Atlantic Ocean is largely due to reductions in airborne dust and volcanic emissions during the past 30 years.

His study results suggest that only about 30 percent of the observed Atlantic temperature increases are due to other factors, such as a warming climate. While not discounting the importance of global warming, Evan says this adjustment brings the estimate of global warming impact on Atlantic more into line with the smaller degree of ocean warming seen elsewhere, such as the Pacific.

The new paper is coauthored by Ralf Bennartz and Daniel Vimont of UW-Madison and Andrew Heidinger and James Kossin of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and UW-Madison, and was published in Science on March 26.

Al Gore’s ambitious propaganda tool - The Climate Project - now presents its youngest US-trained presenter. His name is Alex Loorz and he’s 14, a Freshman at El Camino High School in Ventura, California.

“Feeling the weight of the global situation”, Alex founded  Kids vs Global Warming when he was 12 years old, right after watching “An Inconvenient Truth.” Now he’s been officially trained (read: further indoctrinated) by Al Gore and his Climate Project. He will be continue to travel around and “spread the word” to other school children.

TIME Magazine’s Brian Walsh is searching for the climate’s tipping point, comparing it to a future asteroid impact. Only this time we know that the asteroid will hit, the question is not longer “if”, it is “when”.

The threat is real, the asteroid is out there, forecasting an ELE, writes Brian Walsh. Why on earth then doesn”t the society follow the rules of disaster flicks like Armageddon or Deep Impact? Not only do we not mobilize, as fear over the recession grows, climate change is sliding from our consciousness.

And so the tipping point draws closer. Although nobody seems to know how and when it will materialize. But obviously it’s as certain as death and taxes.

The climate meeting in Copenhagen was actually not all about alarmism. Jonathan Bamber, an ice sheet expert at the University of Bristol, told the conference that previous studies had misjudged the so-called Greenland tipping point, at which the ice sheet is certain to melt completely.

“We found that the threshold is about double what was previously published,” Bamber said. This means it would take an average global temperature rise of 6C to push Greenland into irreversible melting.

Barber also said that evidence from past climates confirms  that Greenland should be able to survive temperature rises higher than 3C. An ice sheet about half the size is known to have persisted there during the Eemian period, about 125,000 years ago, when temperatures were about 5C higher than today.

The following is a new ad from United Nations Development Program (UNDP). It pretty much sums up why the global warming issue has such a strong grip on the public.

Lord Nicholas Stern, the author of the Stern Review, told a meeting of climate change scientists in Copenhagen that the effects of global warming would be worse than he predicted in his report on the economics of the problem. He said policy-makers needed to think more about the likely impact of severe temperature rises of 6C or more.

“Looking back, the Stern review underestimated the risks and underestimated the damage from inaction”, Lord Stern said.

The Copenhagen meeting was obviously all about alarmism. The sea level rise was said to accelerate. Amazon rainforest risks almost total extinction. Increases in ocean acidity would severely disrupt marine ecosystems and fisheries.

An increase of more than 5C — equivalent to the amount of warming that occurred between the last ice age and today — is, according to the Stern report, “likely to lead to major disruption and large-scale movement of population”. It said the effects would be “catastrophic” and “far outside human experience”.

What is it with these people? Are the cataclysmic prognoses a way of trying to convince themselves that global warming indeed has not stopped? Recent news told us about a cold spell that might put a brake on anthropogenic global warming for another 20 to 30 years. High school kids will almost be retiring by the time the warming returns. The AGW-movement looks more and more like a religious one. Now we are supposed to believe that the mighty global warming will come back. Have faith. The world will come to an end and we humans will be judged for our misgivings.

Science Daily reports about the proceedings at the International Scientific Congress on Climate Change in Copenhagen this week. According to research presented at this congress, we are in deep trouble. The upper range of sea level rise by 2100 could be around one meter, or possibly more. In the lower end of the spectrum it looks increasingly unlikely that sea level rise will be much less than 50 cm by 2100.

“The oceans are continuing to warm and expand, the melting of mountain glacier has increased and the ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica are also contributing to sea level rise”, says Dr John Church of the Centre for Australian Weather and Climate Research and the lead speaker in the sea level session.

“The ice loss in Greenland has accelerated over the last decade. The upper range of sea level rise by 2100 might be above 1m or more on a global average”, says Konrad Steffen, Director of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado, Boulder and co-chair of the congress session on sea level rise.

And John Church again: “Unless we undertake urgent and significant mitigation actions, the climate could cross a threshold during the 21st century committing the world to a sea level rise of metres.”

Global sea level? What’s that? A computed average just like the global temperature? As if the sea level was exactly the same all over the world. And affected by the very same factors. Are the alarmist getting desperate in their attempts to curb our use of fossil fuels? First, it was the temperature, then the acidification of the ocean, now we are going to drown. What’s next?
